Outdoor play
Healthy, happy children need regular access to fresh air and room to practice big movements and voices. At Tiny Tots we have two outdoor play areas. The children have access to the safe and secure outdoor play areas which they use regularly throughout the day.
Our outdoor areas are sheltered so that children can benefit from having experience playing outside in all weather conditions.
Each outdoor area provides age appropriate opportunities for outdoor activities on a bigger scale than those provided inside – bikes, water and sand, a role play area, quiet area with mark making and a book corner, realistic small world environments, a variety of P.E. equipment. Children are also encouraged to explore nature and learn about growing flowers and vegetables in their own garden.
At Tiny Tots we recognize that outdoor play is as important as indoor play. Space, fresh air, freedom and time are essential for children’s emotional, social and personal well-being.
In order to widen children experiences, we take them on the mini outings, to different environments such as, to the shop next door, to the park for an autumn walk, or to the post box to post christmas cards. etc.
Once a year we close the nursery for our annual summer outing. We find that our summer outings are perfect opportunities for staff and children to build on their relationships. We also find that it is great opportunity for parents to meet and get to know other parents and also see how their children interact with other children and staff. However, the main reason we organise this outing is because it extends the children’s learning experiences outside of the nursery and enables them to get concrete experiences that enhance their understanding of the world around them.
